In 1436 the printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg. The printing press was a huge because before someone wanted to copy something they had to write it down by hand which took months or years at a time. The longevity of the book making made them very expensive. Gutenberg combined ink, movable type, and paper to make the printing press. The first book to be mass produced was the bible.
